The Ponds is new. The houses are big, the ceilings are high, the main bedroom has a walk-in, and the builder put one rail and one shelf in it.

The Ponds was built from around 2010 onwards and is still filling in at the edges. Almost every home is a double-storey family house with four or five bedrooms, 2.7 metre ceilings, an ensuite and a walk-in robe off the main bedroom, and sliding robes in the other bedrooms. The construction is recent and the rooms are generous.

What is not generous is the wardrobe fit-out. Display homes show a dressed walk-in; the one that gets built has a rail along each wall and a shelf above. The same goes for the kids' rooms: good-looking sliding doors with a single rail behind them. Most of what we do in The Ponds is re-fitting those spaces so they hold what a family owns, without touching the doors or the room.

Because the houses are large and recent, owners here tend to want the internals to match the finish of the house, so woodmatt oak and matt white layouts with a drawer bank and LED lighting are a common request.

Our house is only a few years old. Is it worth re-fitting the walk-in already?

Yes, and it is the most common job we do in The Ponds. The room and the doors are fine; the builder simply did the minimum inside. A re-fit uses the height and the walls you already have.

Can the internals match the woodmatt finish in our kitchen?
