Parramatta is two different wardrobe jobs. The CBD and the streets around it are apartments, from 1970s walk-ups to current high-rise, where the bedrooms are small and the built-in robe is usually a shallow builder unit that wastes the wall. North Parramatta, Harris Park and the older streets are Federation, inter-war and 1950s houses with 3 metre ceilings, picture rails and, often, no built-in wardrobe at all, because the house was built for a freestanding one.

In the apartments, the answer is a floor-to-ceiling sliding robe across the full wall, made to the opening so there are no gaps, with a mirror door to make the room feel larger and double hanging inside to use the height. Access is the thing we plan for: lifts, stairs and loading zones are checked at the consult so the install day runs smoothly.

In the older houses, it is a hinged or sliding robe built into an alcove or across a wall, to the full 3 metre height, with doors in a profile that suits the period and a cornice detail that does not fight the room.

Do you install in high-rise apartments?

Yes. The cabinetry is made in panels that fit a standard lift, and we check lift size, loading-zone access and any building move-in rules at the consult so there are no surprises on the day.

Our Federation house has 3 metre ceilings and a picture rail. Can a built-in work with that?

Yes. The robe is made to the full height, or to a height that sits under the picture rail if you prefer, and the doors are chosen in a profile that suits the house. Many owners run it to the ceiling and use the top as a luggage shelf.
