Wardrobes for Mount Druitt homes
Mount Druitt and the suburbs around it (Whalan, Tregear, Emerton, Bidwill and Dharruk) were built in the 1960s and 1970s, largely as public housing that has since been bought and renovated by owners. The houses are single-storey brick-veneer and fibro on blocks from 550 to 700 square metres, with three bedrooms, 2.4 metre ceilings and the original built-in robe in each bedroom. Along the main roads and near the station are newer townhouses and some apartments.
The wardrobes in the original homes are the standard 1970s robe: chipboard carcass, vinyl or painted doors on a floor track, single rail, top shelf. They have done fifty years and are worn out. The usual Mount Druitt job is replacing one or two of them with floor-to-ceiling sliding robes made to the recess, with double hanging and shelving, at a sensible budget.
Where the doors are still sound, re-fitting only the internals is the most cost-effective upgrade in the house, and it is a job we do often here.

Questions from Mount Druitt homeowners
Anything else? Ask your designer at your onsite consult.
We are on a budget. What is the most cost-effective wardrobe upgrade?
If the doors still slide and look acceptable, re-fit the internals only: double hanging, adjustable shelving and a drawer bank. It roughly doubles what the robe holds for a fraction of a full replacement. If the doors are the problem, flat-panel sliding doors in a standard polytec colour are the economical replacement.
Can you do just one bedroom?
Yes. There is no minimum job. Many owners do the main bedroom first and the others later, and we match the style when we come back.
How far is Mount Druitt from your factory?
About 8 km.
