Blacktown is a suburb of two halves when it comes to wardrobes. The streets around Kildare Road, Marayong and the older parts near the station are mostly 1950s to 1970s fibro and brick-veneer homes, usually with 2.4 metre ceilings, a recess in each bedroom and a wardrobe that stopped well short of the ceiling. Closer to the CBD and along the main roads are newer duplexes, townhouses and apartments, where the bedrooms are compact and the robe has to work hard.

In the older homes the common job is a full replacement: out with the chipboard robe and its jumping doors, in with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors made to the recess, and internals that use the height. In the newer builds it is more often a re-fit, because the builder supplied doors but a single rail and shelf behind them.

Can I visit the factory in Blacktown?

The factory is a workshop, not a showroom, so there is nothing set up to walk around. The consult happens at your home instead, where the designer can measure the actual room and bring colour samples to it. You are welcome to call if you would like to talk through a job first.

Do you do apartments and townhouses in Blacktown?

Yes. Compact bedrooms in newer builds are where a custom robe earns its keep, because a standard module leaves gaps. If your building is strata, check whether any works approval is needed for a built-in; most do not require it for cabinetry.

My 1960s house has a bulkhead above the wardrobe recess. Is that a problem?

No. Bulkheads, out-of-square walls and cornices are measured onsite and designed in. The wardrobe is made to the opening you have, not a standard size.
